vCenter Server has the very useful feature called as export ovf template. Using this feature you can directly export your virtual machines in your local system. In this post we will see on How to export VM as OVF Template in vCenter Server 7.
There are many cases where you may need to move some of your VMs from one place to another but you don’t have any direct network connectivity or DR setup. So vCenter Server has export VM functionality available using which you can easily export or you can say download your VM into your local system & deploy it in your other environment.
Export OVF functionality will directly download the VM OVF Template files to your local system & you can move those files using any storage media.
So let’s see How to Export VM as OVF Template in vCenter Server 7:
Login to vCenter Server.
Select the VM which you want to export.
Right click on VM > Select Template.
Click on Export OVF Template to export your VM as OVF.
Here you can specify name of your OVF template.
You can also select advanced settings for VM which will be exported as OVF Template.
Click OK to start the Export.
You can see in the recent tasks that Export OVF Template is started.
You can see that VM OVF Template files are being downloaded.
Once all the files are downloaded you can copy to your device & move it anywhere you want.
That’s it, Using this way you can easily Export VM as OVF Template in vCenter Server. Exporting VM may take time depending on your VM size & network connectivity.
Once all the files are exported you can use the same files to deploy VM as OVF Template in your vCenter Server. So than your VM will be deployed successfully & using this way you have successfully moved your VM from one place to another.
