Blueprint is the master image which consists of various specification & attributes which allows you to easily provision virtual machines in vRA using blueprint. Blueprints allows the end users to request their machines entitled to them. In this post we will see on How to create & design blueprint in vRealize Automation Step by Step.
You can create single machine Blueprints and multi-machine blueprints. A normal blueprint is the specification of a physical, virtual or cloud machine, including the respective life cycle information. Multi-machine blueprints were comprised of one or more blueprints combined with the possibility to create a dedicated network for each deployment of a multi-machine blueprint.
You can create blueprint
So let’s see How to create blueprint in vRA :
Login to vRealize Automation console.
Go to Design tab.
Here you will see available blueprints.
Click green plus icon to create new blueprint.
Provide the below details for the blueprint:
Name & Description of the blueprint.
Deployment limit: It specifies that how many deployments can be performed. If you want to limit the max number of deployment that can be created per request. Leave blank for unlimited deployments.
Lease (Days) : It specifies how long a machine can be used before it gets destroyed.
Archive (Days) : It specifies that machine will be archived for the specified days once the lease expires.
Click OK to create.
Blueprint design canvas will start here.
Here you can design your blueprint according to your requirement.
In our case we are simply creating machine blueprint.
Select the vSphere Machine to drag & drop the machine into canvas.
Provide the details for General Tab:
ID: Unique identifier name for blueprint.
Description: Description for the blueprint.
Display location on request if selected it will give user visibility in which datacenter machine will be provisioned.
Reservation policy: If you have created any reservation policy that you can set here.
Machine Prefix: Select the machine prefix for the blueprint so that machine which will be deployed using this blueprint will use this machine prefixes.
Instances: Specify minimum & maximum number of instances can be deployed using this blueprint.
Go to Build information tab & provide below details:
Blueprint type: You can choose blueprint type either desktop or server.
Action: You can select the action for the blueprint when user initiates the request. Default actions available are Create, Clone, Linked Clone etc.
Provisioning workflow: It will be automatically selected once you select the Action.
In this we are using template to create machines so we have selected clone action.
Now we have to provide the template from which machines will be cloned. click on the Box to select the template.
You can see available templates in your vCenter Server. So choose the template for which you want to create blueprint. Click OK to select & close the prompt.
As you can see that Clone from template is displayed, If you have any customization specification policy in your environment then you can specify it here.
Go to Machine Resources tab.
Set the minimum & maximum value for CPU, Memory & Storage for the machine which you will deploy using blueprint.
Go to Storage tab.
Here you will see default disk size which is available in template so if you want to change or modify then you can do it here, you can also set the maximum size for the disk. You can also set or modify the Drive letter & Mount path.
Go to the Network tab.
Here you will not see any details because we first have to add the network to the blueprint
To add network to the blueprint select Network & Security from categories as shown.
Drag & Drop the Existing Network component.
Now you have to choose the network profile , so click on the Box as shown below.
You will see the Network profile which we have created earlier.
Select the network profile & click OK to exit the prompt.
You can see that Network profile details is displayed here.
Now select the VM component from canvas & go to Network tab.
Click on Green plus icon new to create new network.
Select the Network profile & IP assignment method for the network.
Click OK to save.
We have added the network into our blueprint.
Security tab is used for the NSX & Other tabs are for custom settings which is to be done based on the requirement.
Click on the SAVE to save the blueprint designed.
You can see that blueprint is saved successfully.
Click on Finish to save & exit the canvas.
Blueprint is created successfully now click on Publish to publish the blueprint so that we can use this blueprint for further tasks.
As you can see that Blueprint is published successfully.
That’s it, Using this way you can create & design blueprint as per your requirement. In this post we have created simple blueprint to deploy VM from template but you can create multi machine blueprint, XaaS blueprint & many others.
