vRealize Automation is the very large solution which requires recommended system resources to function smoothly. vRA can be deployed in either minimal or enterprise deployment. In this vRA LAB setup we are going to discuss about the minimal deployment. If you are going for Enterprise deployment then you need to check for the system requirements on VMware Portal.
In this post we will discuss about how you can build your vRealize Automation LAB & configure the system resources for successful vRA Deployment & Testing. vRA requires resources to run & deploy the successful vRealize Automation environment.
Below you will find system resource requirements , DNS & Networking requirements & User requirements for the successful vRA deploy & test scenario.
System Resource requirements:
In System resource requirements you can see how many components we will require and it’s CPU, Memory & Disk requirement to setup the vRA LAB.
|1||Windows Server for AD, DNS & NTP||4 GB||4||40 GB|
|2||Openfiler Storage||4 GB||4||250 GB|
|3||vCenter Server||10 GB||4||100 GB|
|4||ESXi Host 1||4 GB||4||40 GB|
|5||ESXi Host 2||4 GB||4||40 GB|
|6||ESXi Host 3||4 GB||4||40 GB|
|7||vRealize Automation Appliance||18 GB||4||140 GB|
|8||IaaS Server||8 GB||4||40 GB|
|9||MS SQL Server||8 GB||4||40 GB|
DNS Entries & Networking:
Every solution requires DNS & Networking to run. So in case of our vRA LAB as well you will need to create the DNS records in your DNS Server before going for the deployment.
So Make sure to create the DNS Records.
|Sr No||Hostname||IP Address||Description|
|1||ad-dns.masteringvmware.com||192.168.0.100||Active Directory, DNS & NTP Server.|
|2||storage.masteringvmware.com||192.168.0.101||Openfiler storage for shared storage|
|3||vcsa.masteringvmware.com||192.168.0.110||vCenter Server Appliance|
|4||esxi1.masteringvmware.com||192.168.0.111||ESXi Host 1|
|5||esxi2.masteringvmware.com||192.168.0.112||ESXi Host 2|
|6||esxi3.masteringvmware.com||192.168.0.113||ESXi Host 3|
|7||vra.masteringvmware.com||192.168.0.121||vRealize Automation Appliance|
|8||iaas.masteringvmware.com||192.168.0.122||IaaS Windows Server|
|9||sql.masteringvmware.com||192.168.0.123||MS SQL Daatabase Server|
User accounts are the service accounts & test accounts which requires to be created for the integration & testing of vRA LAB.
|Sr No||User Accounts||Description|
|1||vcsvc||Service Account vCenter Integration|
|2||iaassvc||Service Account for IaaS Server|
|3||sqlsvc||Service Account for MS SQL Server|
|4||devuser1||Dev User1 account for testing of end user|
|5||devmanager||Dev Manager account for testing of management approval|
|6||vraadmin||vRA Admin account for all the tasks of tenant admin & IaaS admin|
Complete setup also requires the certificates so you can either go for the self signed certificate or you can build your own certificate server to use in the LAB. But we are going with the self signed certificates for all of the installation.
Appliance & Components requirement for vRA LAB:
You need to download all of the below components to create the successful vRA LAB.
|1||Windows Server for AD, DNS & NTP||Windows Server 2012 R2|
|3||vCenter Server Appliance||6.7|
|5||vRealize Automation Appliance||7.6|
|6||IaaS Server||Windows Server 2012 R2|
|7||MS SQL Server||SQL Server 2014 Enterprise Edition deployed on Windows Server 2012 R2|
All of the components you can download & use as evaluation version from respective sites of Microsoft, VMware & Openfiler.
Make sure you have all of the requirements full filled to deploy & test the vRealize Automation solution in your LAB.
We have already configured the vSphere Components & Openfiler as iSCSI Storage which you can check using below link:
How to Configure Shared Storage using Openfiler Deep Dive.
Checkout our post on How to Deploy & Configure vRealize automation step by step:

Note: Above all are the basic requirements to deploy & configure the vRA LAB in your environment. This is strictly for the personal LAB purpose only. Do not compare the same with the Production requirements. Production requirements are very different & requires large number of resources for availability.
